Home, Sweet Home - and it's called 19 Bonnie Brook

Well, now we're homeowners. Last night, I installed installed a new sink plunger thing. Today I was cleaned the windows and helped Theresa rake the leaves. I also attached a new hose. My how technology has improved. The water pressure causes a noticeable recoil when you press the trigger. And there's something satisfying about hosing things down. I uses to puzzle at the neighbors in Puerto Rico who would hose their driveways off to push the dirt to the street. What with the occasional water mismanagement there, it seemed wasteful to, what I would call, water one's driveway. But I can understand the feeling of it. Like a flamethrower. Or a leaf blower. I think it's a combination of the continuity of output versus, say, the discrete, set-reset motion of a rake or pouring a bucket and the Mr. Gadget feeling of having a limb extend dramatically.

So we're getting to know every nook and cranny of our house. The random nails that need to be repounded. The dirt stuck between the panes in the window. Which switches turn on which lights. How long to reheat cold duck slices (25 seconds - the thing is strong!). How far to pull the into the garage and still be able to walk around the car. What's strange is that it doesn't feel all that strange to do all this. Perhaps because the house is so much like 159 Kermiet Drive. Similar yard, similar layout. I guess raking the leaves isn't so foreign a chore after all. A bit like revisiting memories.

Plenty of things we can do to it, but for now we're just working on the basics - getting it clean enough to move in, getting the rooms the right colors, figuring out how to fit all the stuff in our tiny kitchen, and planning the furniture layout. Should be fun!
