Naming One's House

Theresa and I were driving work today and she remarked that she thought it pretentious to name one's house.  I tossed this over and came to a different conclusion.  We name things that we hold dear...our children, our dogs, our gun ("Widow Maker", "Excalibur").  I've named my car "Vic" (admittedly, short for Civic).  A co-worker remarked that postal addresses would have this extra bit of redundant information.  But I responded that we call each other by name, not social security number.  Addresses are so sterile.  Why not give ourselves the right to elevate our home to its rightfully treasured state?  My co-worker said he'd name his place "Shithole".
